I'm happy to hear from potential PHD students using quantitative/mixed methods, and working on topics in urban economics and local economic development, including but not restricted to: the growth and decline of cities, especially over the long term; new opportunities and risks facing cities, including climate change and net zero transitions; drivers of urban inequality between and within places; urban innovation systems; entrepreneurship; the economics of migration and diversity; ICT and digital technology firms; the creative and cultural industries, topics in political geography, or urban / place-based policy evaluations. If this is you, please send me a CV and 2-3 page research proposal. Your materials should be with me in September the year before you plan to start the PhD.
UCL PhD scholarships are highly competitive, and close in December each year. Full applications will take us a few months to finalise from the initial proposal. From time to time I'll also have openings for postgrad / pre-doc research assistants on projects like these. If you're interested, please share your CV.
